Sleepless in War

Ukrainian illustrations of war (poster exhibition)

The war of aggression in Ukraine has long been more than just a nightmare for the people there.
The poster exhibition "Sleepless" of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, Kyiv office, shows experiences and immediate impressions of this war, which has been going on since February 24, 2022.
The series of drawings "Sleepless" shows the simultaneity and excess of a wide variety of war experiences and experiences. In the visual reproduction of the authors of this series, the pictorial testimonies - including media images, as they are already imprinted in the collective memory, or small episodes from everyday life - are transformed into the collage of a new reality of war, which is impermanent and devastating, and must necessarily be reflected upon and commented upon. The works were created in the ongoing war. They are meant to capture memories and experiences so that they are not lost as the relentlessly destructive war machine continues to accelerate events. In their intensity, these images immediately speak to viewers and build lines of communication into solidarity.

"They are images against war, calling us to remember and to act now." Kateryna Mishchenko
