Natural history hike in the Greifswald countryside. Walk through the Ryck meadows (approx. 1.5 hours)
In a series of nature tours in the Greifswald countryside, residents and visitors to the city are invited to learn about the history and use of the landscape, flora and fauna. The focus is on the meadows - a multifaceted habitat that is illuminated from different perspectives in a playful reference to C. D. Friedrich's painting "Meadows near Greifswald". Nature, Friedrich's most important source of inspiration, plays the main role here.Tour: RyckwiesenMeeting point: STRAZEfoyer (Stralsunder Str. 10)Duration: approx. 1.5 hoursGuide: Christina Lechtape, staff member of peatland conservation and climate protection at the Michael Succow Foundation Christina Lechtape, invites you on a tour through the meadows along the river Ryck (Ryckwiesen, or Polder Steinbeckervorstadt) to find out what wet peatlands can offer and why drained peatlands such as the meadows along the Ryck are harmful to the climate. To do this, we look at historical maps, drainage ditches, discover typical plants and look into the depths with a peat corer.
