The Ukrainian response to existentialist science fiction films such as “2001,” “Dark Star,” and “Moon.” Sci-fi drama / UA, BE 2024 / Director: Pavlo Ostrikov / 101 min. / Original version with German and Ukrainian subtitles (bilingual) / PG12
A visually stunning blend of sci-fi, tragicomedy, and love story: After the destruction of Earth, space trucker Andriy Melnyk believes he is the last human in the universe. His only companion is Maxim, the sarcastic on-board computer. But one day, he receives a radio message from a French astronaut named Catherine, who is also waiting alone on a distant space station. Determined to find her, he sets off on a dangerous journey.
With a great deal of emotion, but also black humor, this Ukrainian response to existentialist science fiction films such as “2001,” “Solaris,” “Dark Star,” and “Moon” touches on timeless themes: mortality, loneliness, longing, and a universal need for human closeness, which even brightens the nihilistic final chord.
Doors open: 7.30 pmStart: 8 pmAdmission: €5
The film will be shown in its original language (Ukrainian and French) with German and Ukrainian subtitles (bilingual).
