Tragicomedy / Germany 2024 / Director: Fabian Stumm / 96 min. / Original version (German) w/o subtitles / PG12

Joseph and Sonya are bound by a close friendship and their young son, Pino, whom they are raising together. While Joseph, a filmmaker, struggles with a new film idea and his breakup with his ex-boyfriend Marc, Sonya suffers from depression that is increasingly pulling her out of her life. When she is admitted to a clinic, Joseph must juggle not only his daily family life but also his artistic ambitions.

Doors open: 4.30pm
Start: 5pm
Admission: €3/€5

The film will be shown in its original language (German (primarily), English, Swedish, Italian) with partial German subtitles.

Die Hyäne Kino is a queer-feminist film collective. The hyena, after whom we are named, is arguably one of the queerst mammals. Not only is it impossible to assign a gender to it based on appearance, but it also lives under female leadership.
Under the motto “Reclaim the Frame”, we screen a film with a queer theme or directed by a FLINTA* person once a month on Sundays. Just in time for June—Pride Month—we’re launching our collaboration with STRAZEkino.
It’s going to be colorful, it’s going to be queer, it’s going to be cozy! Let’s celebrate diversity and have fun together. Feel free to arrive a little early and enjoy a drink at the STRAZEcafé.
As a little highlight, there will be colorful snacks available in exchange for a few golden ducats.

An educational event organized by STRAZEkultur and “Die Hyäne Kino” at the Kultur- und Initiativenhaus Greifswald e.V., with financial support from the State Agency for Political Education of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

This movie poster for “Sad Jokes” depicts an intimate and emotional scene between two men embracing each other. The yellow lettering of the title stands out sharply against the muted, gray-brown background, creating a visual contrast that draws the eye. The embrace between the two men appears comforting and supportive. One of the men has his head resting on the other’s shoulder, and his eyes are closed, suggesting a deep emotional connection or perhaps pain. The other man’s hand, resting on the first man’s back, is bandaged, which could indicate an injury or a struggle. These details add an extra layer of complexity to the image and encourage reflection on the story behind the embrace. The color palette is generally subdued, with the exception of the bright yellow of the title. This could reflect the film’s serious or melancholic nature, while the title “Sad Jokes” itself suggests a certain irony or dark humor. The composition, which focuses on the faces and the embrace, emphasizes the human interaction and the emotional themes of the film. Overall, the poster conveys a message of connection, comfort, and possibly also of overcoming difficulties. It invites the viewer to learn more about the characters and their story.
