Training for queer self-care & self-defense
Queer & Care: Training for queer self-care & self-defense 31.01. - AJZ Neubrandenburg01.02. - STRAZE Greifswald 07.02. - Club Einblick Schwerin 08.02. - Die Beginen RostockRegistration at: info[at]kubiq-bildung[dot]de
As queer people, we are acutely aware of the increasing hostility towards the queer community. During training sessions, queer people can meet and discuss how to deal with experiences of discrimination. We thus offer a space for mutual support and empowerment. We explore methods and tools for learning, organizing, and accepting care for ourselves and others. The goal is to encourage participants to go about their daily lives with a better understanding of resources, a stronger attitude, and perhaps even new connections.
The training sessions are conducted by queer individuals with many years of experience in political and queer education. We are white and able-bodied, and some of us were socialized in eastern Germany.
The training is open to all queer people. If you're wondering whether you're “queer enough” for the workshop, the answer is probably yes. We especially invite people who are marginalized in multiple ways to participate in the training.
Accessibility information: The training will be conducted in spoken German. There will be plenty of opportunity for discussion. If you do not wish to speak, or are unable to, you will have the option of expressing yourself in writing. You can also just listen if you do not wish to share anything. We will send out a rough schedule with break times before the training. The room in Greifswald is wheelchair accessible, but there are stairs at the other locations. We will provide various seating and lying options for each training session. The Neurobox from Qube will be on site, including stim toys, weighted pillows, and noise-canceling headphones. For the training, we are trying to arrange for interpretation between German sign language and spoken German, but we are currently still waiting for confirmation of funding. Feel free to write to us if you need anything to help you participate (better) or if you have any questions.
Corona, flu, colds, etc.: Please get tested beforehand if possible. Tests and masks will also be available on site. If you are sick/have a cold, we ask that you stay at home.
