The film describes the daily lives of women in Afghanistan before 2002 and is the first long feature film to be shot after the (temporary) end of Taliban rule. Drama / AF, IR, JP 2003 / Director: Siddiq Barmak / 82 min / OV + German subtitles / FSK12
After the Taliban takeover, thousands of widows and single women in Afghanistan are faced with an almost unbearable problem: how are they supposed to earn a living if they are no longer allowed to leave the house without the company of male relatives? One mother decides to disguise her 12-year-old daughter as a son so that she can accompany her to work. But she soon loses this job and now the girl has to support the family all by herself. As a boy, she starts working for a milkman who was a friend of the family's father who died in the war. The disguise forces her to take part in the men's religious rites and attend Koran school. But male behavior is alien to her. And the fear of being exposed grows with each passing day.
