The other America. With the Kristin Korb Trio and the Mårten Lundgren Quartet.
There is another America with values different from those that dominate the political stage these days. A good example of this is jazz — one of the few art forms that originated in the US — which has developed models for equal and pointed communication. Those who play jazz first listen to others and then contribute their best to the whole: sensitive responses instead of authoritarian, egocentric showboating; finding their own voice in the collective music instead of dull ignorance; respect instead of deals. But jazz songs also embody this attitude. They are witty, sophisticated, and charmingly carefree. Even when they sing of great happiness or great misfortune, they maintain their composure. The festival would like to present two bands from the Öresund region who illustrate these qualities from a historical and biographical perspective with their swinging mainstream jazz and highly entertaining performances.

Kristin Korb Trio Raised in Montana and educated in California, Kristin Korb taught at universities there and in Washington and was an acclaimed jazz virtuoso and entertainer. One of her teachers was bassist Ray Brown, with whom she released her debut album Introducing Kristin Korb with the Ray Brown Trio in 1996. Then she took a big step in her life when she met her Danish husband and moved to Copenhagen. She joins the large group of American musicians who have found a new home in Denmark since the 1950s. With her album Finding Home, she has made this emotional emigration process her own theme. Her latest project also has a strong connection to Europe. On the album Sweet Dreams, she interprets songs by the British dance-pop duo Eurythmics, who have fascinated her since her youth. Here, Kristin Korb weaves the pop classics into jazz and elevates them to timeless dimensions with lively new arrangements. The result is twelve catchy tracks that breathe jazz into the essence of Eurythmics.
Mårten Lundgren Quartet The American songwriter, pianist, and singer Bob Dorough (1923–2018) is unfortunately little known in Germany. You won't find him in jazz books. His songs have what it takes to become jazz classics; they are singable, melodic, humorous, self-deprecating, and full of New York spirit. They have the wit and inventiveness of a Cole Porter. Dorough became famous in the 1960s when Miles Davis, who was not usually into singing, brought him in for recordings. his is hardly surprising, as Dorough's lyrics are really good! His later love songs are among the most beautiful in jazz, and Dorough became known to many people for his songs for the children's program Schoolhouse Rock (1973-85), a kind of Sesame Street that educated children. So there is a lot to discover when singing trumpeter Mårten Lundgren — who in 2025 charmingly hosted the Nordic Sound concert featuring the Malmö Monday Night Big Band with Sinne Eeg from Denmark — presents his album Plays the Music of Bob Dorough. He is accompanied by his wonderfully well-rehearsed, enormously swinging quartet: bassist Ida Hvid, who also sings, Sven-Erik “Svempa” Lundeqvist on piano, and Espen Laub von Lillienskjold on drums.* Discounts on tickets are available for school kids, students, trainees, severely disabled persons, job seekers, pensioners, KUS pass holders, and holders of the MV volunteer card. Please have the relevant proof ready at the entrance. Children up to and including the age of 12 receive free admission to the concert events after prior registration with the festival office (organisation-nokl@uni-greifswald.de). ** Sound cards are available via the online shop.
