Doppelkonzert mit Kari Heimen und Jessica Kiil.
Kari takes her audience on a journey to Sápmi. She presents her homeland, nature, people and animals in song. Her singing style is Sámi joik, one of the oldest vocal traditions in Europe. In addition to traditional joiks, she also sings in her own modern joik voice, accompanying herself on the frame drum. She uses playing techniques from India and the Middle East, which sounds both groovy and meditative. Kari is also a drummer, composer and leader of her band Heimen. Her latest album is a personal story about the Norwegian authorities' assimilation policy against the Sami.
Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, singer and author Jessica Kiil has lived in Norway since 1993. She was inspired by great African singers such as Abeti Masikini and Miriam Makeba and sings in several languages, from African pop to American soul and Caribbean zouk. In addition to her music, Jessica is involved in the migration debate and runs the Perle Noire foundation, which looks after children in difficult situations. Jessica will be coming to Greifswald with DJ Sprængt Torsk and conga player Amadou Diarra - both of whom also sing.
