After a break in her life, Kerstin (Christina Grosse) returns to the place of her childhood. She puts the red kayak in the water and begins a journey across the Mecklenburg Lake District. Between tourism and dreariness, the kayak becomes a protective capsule for her - until one day she meets Alima (Pegah Ferydoni), who finally asks the paddling loner the right questions.
This place means nothing to Alima.The constant paddling, the tranquillity of nature and the lack of a wireless network are just annoying to her. Kerstin, who is as stoic as she is vulnerable, is a welcome change, so the different women continue their journey together. But little by little, Kerstin's past creeps into the lake district with Sören (Niklas Wetzel), Thomas (Karsten Antonio Mielke) and Nina (Milena Dreissig) and challenges her seclusion once and for all.
